Peter William Summerfield of London, England, serves in a relationship of Counsel to the Partnership. Mr. Summerfield graduated with an Honours Degree in Jurisprudence from Pembroke College, Oxford, England, in 1957. He was in National Service from 1952 until 1954. Mr. Summerfield became a Solicitor with Honours in 1960 and an Accredited Mediator in 1990. In his legal career he has served as an Articled Clerk, Assistant Solicitor, Partner Herber Oppenheimer, Nathan and Vanyk and Partner, Nabarro Nathanson, and finally, Summerfields in 1997. Mr. Summerfield had been appointed as Official Legal Representative in England and Wales to the Governments and Embassies of Switzerland and Austria since 1987/1988. He also serves as Chairman, International Board of Advisors, McGeoge School of Law, and University of the Pacific, California. Mr. Summerfield was appointed to the Panel of Arbitrators, Columbia University. His practice includes general litigation with special emphasis on international commercial and contractual disputes, banking, insurance, contested probate and negligence claims; Arbitration - acting as Arbitrator (e.g. ICC Paris and Endispute) or for parties to arbitration; Mediator for CEDR and ADR Net. Mr. Summerfield represented the Litigation Unit of US Justice Department in the UK for over 25 years. He has acted for Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland in major International Tin Council Litigation from 1986 until 1990. Mr. Summerfield is co-author of Effective Dispute Resolution for the International Lawyer, published by Kluwer in 1987. He is a frequent lecturer on Dispute Resolution, Litigation and Arbitration in Japan, Switzerland and elsewhere. His languages include German, French and Spanish. |
